DFI- MEDIA- WEEK 3
It is always good learning more about the Manaikalani kaupapa and pedagogy. Something that stuck with me today was when Vicky had mentioned that "Creativity is not about talent but exploring" 😍I love this! I enjoyed watching the video such a great example of learning through create. Vicki also mentioned something around Digital Technologies empower creativity. This is very true especially for our children they love technology so as an educator it is my job to be able to build my confidence with digital technology to be able to plan creative but more importantly effective tasks for students to be able to explore and create their own. Devices should always be used to create rather than consuming technology- Very true! The 6 C's in Education are an awesome way to go back and reflect if we are doing our part to encourage this.
YOUTUBE:
I have always been a youtube user by looking for resources however, I never really thought about creating my own professional channel so being able to create my own channel with the support from my group facilitator Phil, I managed to personalise it. I love the idea of subscribing to other channels because it saves time with having to find videos and you also get a few ideas from other teachers on what you could implement into your learning as well. When working in our small group I thought of creating playlists for the different language weeks so that this can be used every year. As well as playlists for different learning areas as well as a playlist for all those winter fitness jump jam videos! Getting excited just thinking about it 😂It was good when Maria had mentioned that we could set up a folder on Hapara for Media so that everything you want your students to view is already there and there is no need to go onto youtube.
MEDIA:
I wish I had learnt about this last term. Our Unit Topic last term was around Transforming others through our journeys and stories, this was done through Digital Technology and I really wish I knew about this then because my students could've definitely been able to create more through Media! However, better late than never. I would love to explore WEVIDEO. I love the fact that it already connects to your drive so is seems very user friendly. Looking forward to checking out more of those apps that was on the slides to explore a bit more.
GOOGLE DRAW:
Google drawing is something I haven't tried before so looking forward to exploring more about it and then utilise this app more with my class. I enjoyed learning about cropping an image to a particular shape. I know the students will have a blast exploring this icon I can just imagine them taking half of the lesson trying to decide on what shape and image they would want to use 🤦🏾♀️
The other cool thing I learnt as well is that if you had published your drawing on your blog and you decide to make changes after, you don't have to update it again it automatically updates which is awesome! I was really interested when seeing Makaore's drawing of himself using google draw and the cool when we went into our deep dive session I wanted to learn more about google draw and we were shown how to do this amazing artwork by Jacob. It definitely is time consuming but very fun. Our time was up and I had only managed to draw my hair 😅 However, if I had so much fun doing that I can just imagine how much my students will enjoy creating through this app. Below is our profile drawings we created within our small groups which I have also added as part of my blog layout.
Creating a simple app with Google Slides:
I definitely enjoyed this session. I love the idea of this being a great way for students to present their learning. I do feel quite confident with slides as it is what I mainly use so I look forward to trying this with my class. Below is some I started to create and by hearing what others in my group shared it gave me ideas of what else I could do as well.

Ka pai Gillian. What a cool idea to create playlists for language weeks. That will save you and your colleagues a lot of time! WeVideo is great and there are so many tutorials online that you can teach yourself fairly easily. Well done for all your creations today! See you next week!
ReplyDeleteReally cool reflections Gillian - I like your work around your youtube channel and being able to personalise it!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome blog post Gillian! I agree with Phil, playlists for different language weeks are such a good idea! The detail in your reflections are great, reading them it is helping me to remember things or get some different take-aways from the day which is really cool. Looking forward to learning more together today!
